Mitragynine (MIT) and 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) are the two most studied alkaloids in kratom. They sound similar but behave very differently. This guide explains how.
Mitragynine (MIT)
The most abundant alkaloid in raw kratom leaf (typically 1–2% by weight). It is the primary active compound in traditional kratom products.
7-Hydroxymitragynine (7-OH)
A downstream oxidation product of mitragynine. Present only in trace amounts in raw leaf (about 0.01–0.05%), but pharmacologically much more active. Refined 7-OH extracts deliver a much higher concentration.
How they interact
In raw leaf, MIT and 7-OH work together. Refined 7-OH extracts isolate the more active compound; 7-OH + MIT blends combine both.
Which is better?
Neither is “better” โ it depends on what you want. Pure 7-OH gives a single-alkaloid experience. 7-OH + MIT blends offer a more traditional, full-spectrum profile. NUMBZ sells both.
